Hi Readers! The Wife here Sorry I’ve been MIA recently but I’ve been super busy with work and school. I hope the Husband has been entertaining and informative!
A little over a week ago, we headed to Charleston, SC for a great 3-day weekend vaca to celebrate my birthday :-) We headed to Charleston after work and got there just about 3 hours later. After checking in to the hotel, we headed to the historic district to find some place to eat dinner. On one of the hotel maps, we quickly gravitated toward a local brewery and found ourselves headed there. Upon arrival at the Southend Brewery & Smokehouse, we were happy to get in away from the humidity!
The inside was large and spacious and we were happy to have to wait only a short while.
We decided to head to see what beers they had to offer. We were impressed with all of the details readily available on all of their beers!
I ordered the wheat beer, which the menu notes as the Ironman Wheat. Prior to seeing the menu, we quickly noted that it was clearly unfiltered. In general, I wasn’t too impressed with this beer. It wasn’t bad, but wasn’t good…
The Husband ordered the Pale Ale after finding out that many of the options were actually out :-/
After receiving our beers, we were seated near the stage. While annoyed that we 1) weren’t told there would be a musician coming on stage shortly and 2) weren’t asked if we minded being seated right next to speakers and the stage, we ended up being quite pleased with the performer. Graham Worley had a Jack Johnson/Dave Matthews kind of sound…. quite enjoyable! And we were still able to hear each other during our meal relatively well.
The Husband and I love seafood and were happy to see many options on the menu. He decided to go with Lobster Biscuits & Gravy and a side of Smoked Gouda Mac N Cheese.
I ordered a Catfish Po’Boy also with a side of the mac n cheese.
While we were generally disappointed with the beers (and the lack of available selection), we thought the food was great! The seafood was fresh and the Husband really enjoyed the smoked gouda mac n cheese. Our waiter, Jeff, was very personable and knowledgeable and the food was served in a very timely manner. If you’re looking for a casual restaurant on E. Broad Street, Southend Brewery & Smokehouse would be a good choice!
