On Saturday of our 3-day Charleston weekend, I had planned for us to head out to Sullivan’s Island to check out a recommendation Kath had given us for lunch: Poe’s Tavern. When we arrived, the place looked super cute, but was very crowded! It was a “seat yourself” type place and there were no tables available with a number of groups standing around waiting to pounce. We decided to check out the beach and come back in a bit to see if it got any better. Unfortunately it only got more crowded so we decided to check out the other restaurants on the cute little strip.
We found Station 22 Restaurant and decided to give it a try.
After climbing the stairs, we found a very large deck but decided to eat inside with the A/C (the humidity that weekend was quite surprising for this late in September!).
To beat the heat, we decided to each get a beer. Neither of us having strong desires for those on the beer list, we decided to order the two Palmetto beers (a local brewery in Charleston), try each, and then decide who would have which one. I ended up with the Palmetto Amber while the Husband had the Palmetto Pale Ale.
Continuing our interest in seafood, I decided to go with one of their specials of the day – a shrimp and avocado quesadilla. The shrimp was excellent but the avocado was a little underripe It was still a great choice though!1
The Husband decided to order the Shrimp Burger. Unsure what it would look like, we asked our waitress Jeanette and she described it to be like a crab cake but made of shrimp. It sounded good and the Husband was glad he ordered it. It WAS good!
Overall, we enjoyed our lunch at Station 22 Restaurant. It was quaint local restaurant. If you find yourself on Sullivan’s Island and are looking for some A/C and enjoyable seafood combinations, you’ll enjoy this spot.
