The Husband and I like cheap Mexican food (and usually, the cheaper restaurants tend to have tastier food). Well, that’s not entirely true. The Husband used to think Mexican food was fine but I wore him down and now he enjoys it as much as me! Recently, our friends recommended a Roberto’s Taco Shop that opened up in our neighborhood and we decided to check it out while out running errands a few Sundays ago.
The restaurant is a small little place with four long tables, a counter to order at and a soda machine. After placing our orders, we grabbed our soda and a table.
As our order items became ready, they brought them out to our table which we appreciated. At our friends’ recommendation, we ordered the Carne Asada Fries which were crinkle cut fries topped like nachos with carne asada, sour cream, cheese, salsa, and guacamole. We thought it was an interesting dish, but I think we would have liked it better with taco meat.
For my lunch, I ordered a taco combination plate with rice and beans. The taco tasted quite fresh which I was impressed with. I liked the beans but didn’t care too much for the rice.
The Husband ordered the Beef burrito & cheese enchilada combination plate (but saved the burrito for later).
Our meal overall was enjoyable, but not amazing.
Yesterday, we went back for a quick lunch and the food was just ok. The employee who took our order was impatient with us as I tried to figure out what to order and the whole experience left us not wanting to come back. With a good number of fast Mexican food options in the valley, we don’t expect to be back again.
