The Husband’s boss has been on a mission to find the best cheesesteak in Las Vegas and I recently agreed to go with him for lunch to try out one of the contenders. After doing a Google search, he found a place called Pop’s up on the north end of town (or so I think… it was north, and in an area of town I’d never been so to me it’s the “north end of town”). (Urbanspoon corrects me to advise it’s on the “west side”)
Pop’s is located in this great 1960s building! According to their website, it was built for a Weiner Schnitzel and was a handful of other fast food chains before Pop’s moved in in 1993. It’s an A-frame building that I unfortunately only captured from the side, but even that had great color – easy to spot when you’re searching for it.
This place is great for Las Vegas as it offers open air dining but with shade (a must in the summer!). I also noticed that there were fans to cool things off. The order window had all the charm of the 1960s style. The menu made it difficult to order (so many varieties of cheesesteak!) but luckily we were able to decide. The grill was immediately on the other side of the glass so as you ordered, you got to see your meal made in front of your eyes.
Continuing with the old school charm were the tables and stools throughout the covered space.
For my cheesesteak (and the Husband’s boss got the same thing), I ordered the mushroom cheesesteak. It was steak, mushrooms, onions, and provolone (the cheese was per the suggestion of the cook).
The Husband’s boss is a huge fan of sweet potato fries so we got an order of that as well. They were great and came with a side of a sweet/honey water to dip them in.
The cheese steak was good (I especially liked my mushrooms and onions) and the Husband’s boss definitely puts this as the winner thus far in his great Las Vegas cheese steak search (I have nothing to compare to thus far). If you find yourself in this part of town, or have a good amount of time to head out for lunch, and you like cheese steak, this is a place to try.

great review
Thanks for the honorable mention
