For those of you who have been following us for a while, you’ve seen us go to the Outer Banks Brewing Station MANY times. It’s our favorite restaurant out there and it’s where we had our rehearsal dinner for our wedding back in March 2008. The food is great, the staff is fun, and the beer is tasty. What’s not to love? As now is tradition, we made sure to have a visit at least once while at the Outer Banks on vacation earlier this month.
As a microbrewery, their beers change throughout the year. We tend to get samplers so we can try a small bit of a handful. The Husband had hoped to try the Dog House Tripel, but unfortunately they were out that day.
Instead, he went with the Olsch, Altimeter, HipHop IPA, and Stormy Roses Stout. He’s always a fan of the Olsch and IPAs and he thought the Altimeter was good.
I went with a pint of the Stormy Roses Stout – as expected I enjoyed it once it was warm.
One thing the Husband and I have been craving out west is okra!! So, taking my first opportunity to have some, I ordered the fried okra appetizer to share with the table. Unfortunately, it was more fried than okra
Luckily, I got a couple of pounds to cook up for our friends at the beach house and filled my craving ![]()
As usual, we were brought a plate of warm, crusty, soft bread. Yum!
Two of our friends ordered the Ahi Tuna and Wasabi Mashed Potatoes, normally an outstanding dish. For the two of them, this dish on this date was all wrong. The tuna was cold on the inside (they both sent it back to get warmed up, which when returned, was much better). The mashed potatoes and barely any wasabi and the dyed green color was just odd. ![]()
The Husband went with one of his usuals – the steak salad with blue cheese and he added shrimp. It was fine, but not anything special.
I ordered the same thing I had during my last lunch there – Carolina Pork sandwich with a side of hushpuppies and baked beans. The beans were delish! The rest I could take or leave.
The star of the meal for me? Truffle Mac N Cheese! I seriously am obsessed with truffle oil and to me it went so well with the creamy mac n cheese. The Husband wasn’t a fan, though, and left it all to me. Yay!
Overall, the food itself was quite disappointing which made the Husband and I a bit sad. Our server was friendly and apologetic and we still enjoyed the atmosphere. Although the experience was at the bottom of our many, many visits, we won’t hesitate to be back the next time we’re in town!
