Two weeks ago, friends who influenced our reason for moving to Las Vegas, moved here themselves
To celebrate, we decided to go out to a nice dinner together. Ever since the Taste of the Nation, the Husband and I have been thinking of an excuse to go to Roy’s and this was a perfect opportunity. Roy’s serves Hawaiian Fusion, a cuisine we were excited to try.
The exterior of the restaurant set the mood for Hawaiian.
Once inside, we waited in the bar area until our whole group arrived.
While we waited, I headed back to the entrance to check out their happy hour poster. Sunday through Friday, in the bar from 4:30 to 7pm, they have appetizers and drink specials for $5. Hopefully we’ll be back for that some time soon!
Back to the restaurant, the kitchen was open and there were plenty of tables, but you still felt that you were experiencing private dining. One feature I really enjoyed was that the waiters would gather all of our food at once.
The menu offered a lot of options to choose from and our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable. He gave great descriptions and a handful of recommendations.
As we mulled over the menus, we were brought edamame to snack on.
Most of us (there were 6 total) decided to order salads to start. Generally if a restaurant has a salad with beets and cheese on it, I’m going to order it. I ordered the Roasted Beet & Mushroom Salad which came with boursin cheese, butter lettuce, and warm beets. It was a perfect temperature, the cheese was creamy, and every flavor came through nicely.
The Husband ordered the Sweet Home “Waimanalo” Salad (I think!). Isn’t it pretty?
For some reason, I changed the camera settings and ruined the next few photos
An area of the menu that our waiter pointed out was the Mixed Plates section. Relatively similar in price to the other entrees, they included a variety of dishes on a smaller level. The Husband and I each tried one of the three options.
The Husband’s order was the Shellfish Sampler. It came with Butter Poached Half Lobster Tail, Seared Scallops, Stuffed Shrimp, and Macadamia Nut Pesto Risotto. The Husband loved the risotto and said he would order that again all by itself if it were on the menu. He liked the scallops but he felt the shrimp was overdone.
I ordered the Roy’s Trio. Since I took close ups of each item, I’ll describe them below. Overall, this dish was excellent! So glad I got the trio instead of one single fish item.
On the right was the Misoyaki Butterfish over Baby Bok Choy. I’ve never had butterfish before and I definitely enjoyed it.
In the middle was Blackened Ahi. It was perfectly seared and tender in the middle. It was over two sauces – a milder creamy one (the one you can see) and a spicier one underneath. Both went very well with the tuna.
To the left was my Hibachi Salmon which I ordered medium rare. I enjoyed the grilled outside and rarer inside.
It also came with a dish of rice which I enjoyed with each of the sauces.
Overall, the Husband and I loved our meal. Roy’s met our expectations after reviews we’ve read and our taste at the Taste of the Nation. Our friends enjoyed their meals as well. We were very impressed with the service – their knowledge and attentiveness (but not overcrowding that some waiters can do) was kindly noticed. The meal is expensive, but is worth it for a special occasion. According to the website, Roy’s is a chain so if you have one in your neck of the woods, stop by for your next celebration.

I really like Roy’s… in fact, I was thinking of going there for my birthday dinner next week! Their seasonal prix fixe menu is intriguing me.
I think you should! What a great place to celebrate a birthday at
