Yesterday, we went to my first wine festival! Never having been to a wine festival (or a beer festival… where have I been?!?!) I was quite excited and Kath had the great idea to have a picnic along with all of our wine tastings. After picking up our tickets at will call, we got our cute tasting glasses and entered the Great Grapes festival. ![]()

Kath, Matt, Justin and I found a shady, relatively flat spot close to the wine tents and set up our picnic. We had Great Harvest bread, cheeses, veggies and hummus from Kath & Matt. The Husband and I brought meats and pink cupcakes. And when Whit arrived, we had fruit! The perfect combination for a wine festival!

At first we took turns manning the picnic table while the others went out and tried the wine. Kath & Matt thought a bottle would be good so we could all enjoy the picnic together and I agreed! They headed to one of their favorite wineries, RagApple Lassie, and picked up a bottle of Chardonnay. Yum!

When we decided we’d had enough to eat and no one wanted to man the picnic any longer, we packed up our things and the boys took it all to the car. When they returned, the five of us began to venture to the numerous local North Carolina wine tents.

Some of the wineries we checked out were Stony Mountain, Round Peak, Uwharrie, Sanders Ridge, and Southern Charm. We definitely a handful of others but I forgot to pick up their fliers!

The weather was perfect and the company was great. After a few hours, we’d had our fill of wine and all we wanted was water and shade so we headed back to Kath & Matt’s for the evening. If you read KERF, you know that Kath and Matt have lots of spiders around the house. We were amazed to see this one just outside their sliding glass door! Ms. Spider freaked a bit when folks were taking pics (running up and down the web) but she calmed when the Husband backed away.

After lounging for a bit on their gorgeous back patio and rehydrating with water (at least I did – the boys were tasting many of Matt’s delicious homebrews), we decided it was time to order pizza. The girls and I walked about a half mile to Wolfman Pizza to pick up those that we ordered and we did our best to keep it warm on our walk home.

We ordered a Pepperoni, Sundried Tomato and Jalapeno pizza for the meat eaters but they forgot the pepperoni
Then we had a Mushroom, Green Pepper, and Roasted Red Pepper for our veggie fill. (The boys made a delicious salad while we were out getting the pizza).

For a local, walkable pizza joint, the Husband and I enjoyed the selection. We were pleased with the spiciness of the jalapenos and the sundried tomatoes went really well with them! While annoyed that they forgot the pepperoni, I can certainly see ordering from them again. They’re actually a restaurant so perhaps next time we’ll eat in!

I’m headed to the Lehigh Valley wine festival is two weeks… it’s a favorite after last year! I’m glad you enjoyed your first experience!
