Seattle in January

This past January, I had a business trip to Seattle.  Having never been there before and with the Husband loving Seattle and wishing for me to meet some of his friends that live out there, we decided to go out early and spend the weekend there before I had to work.  I have to say, I fell in love.

The husband travels a lot for work and has been a loyal Choice Hotels member for years.  This chain includes the well known hotels such as Quality Inn, Comfort Suites, and Econo Lodge.  It’s not generally a fancy chain, but it usually meets the needs that he’s looking for when traveling.  (The Husband blogged about this topic here.) One of the highlights of their rewards program is that you can use the points towards free nights at luxury hotels in their chain or partner chains.

Sorrento Hotel

With all the travel he did last year, the Husband immediately looked into a potential nice hotel to get.  He found us a room at the Sorrento Hotel which looked quite nice.  As a potential surprise, he called up the hotel the day before to find out if he could upgrade rooms and how much it would be (since the nights were going to be free, he figured we could actually afford something really nice!).  When he spoke with the front desk, they advised him that they’d already upgraded us to a Sorrento Suite.  We were so excited!

Upon arrival, not only had we been upgraded to a suite, we actually got a Corner Suite.  (The front desk said he had wanted to give us the Sleepless in Seattle suite but it was taken.)  When we got to the room, we discovered it was huge! (even bigger than my bff in New York’s apt!)

When we walked in, we were in a hallway.  To the left was the living room and bedroom.

If you went right, you found yourself in quite a large bathroom.

All of the staff was so nice and helpful and no one made us feel out of place even though we’re not the typical clientele.  We would definitely recommend this hotel to any one traveling to Seattle.  It’s in a quiet area, a walkable distance to many shops and restaurants and has a good restaurant and lounge.  We had zero complaints!

Being a Tourist :-)

We spent the short two days we spent there together being a tourist and seeing friends.  We hit all the top spots of course!

With friends we checked out two breweries, but I unfortunately don’t remember what they were called.  At the second one we hit, the waitress was awesome and gave us a ginormous version of their beer sampler.  We made sure to help the Husband out with this one!

While our time there was short, and a crazy snow storm (in Seattle’s terms) hit, we loved every minute.  We can’t wait until the next time we can head out west :-)
