Earlier this summer, on a beautiful evening, a group of us got together to enjoy dinner at the top of the M Resort at their wine bar/restaurant, Veloce. I’d heard about it multiple times, particularly the view, so I was looking forward to it. Although the restaurant is on the top level, a hostess stand is located on the main level directing you to the elevator up.
At the top, you could see for forever! Since we were with a large group, we couldn’t get a table next to the windows but those who sat across from me could see out.
As we perused the menus, we were brought bread baskets with a variety of breads and crackers.
I loved the clean lines of the restaurant’s décor…
And the lemon trees for decoration.
With chopsticks on the table, the Husband and I HAD to order sushi!
We also had a good view of the sushi chefs from our table…
So, as an appetizer we ordered the Caterpillar Roll which was unagi (one of the Husband’s favorites), cucumber, wrapped with avocado.
The Husband and I decided to order two appetizers and then share an entrée so our second choice was the Veloce Poppers which were jalapenos stuffed with spicy tuna and cream cheese and then covered in tempura. These were VERY good! Slightly spicy and creamy – a good twist on the bar food stuffed jalapenos.
During his meal, the Husband had a glass of red wine… we don’t remember which one it was, but he enjoyed it. Later in the evening, we found that the restaurant has the enomatic wine system where you can buy 1oz, 3oz, or 6oz pours. With the view you’ll see later in this post, I imagine we’ll be back to enjoy that.
For our entrée, the Husband and I split the Rigatoni Bolognese. It was good, but after I tasted my friend’s Penne with English peas, prosciutto, black truffle, and parmesan cream sauce (which I had internally debated over ordering), I wish had ordered that instead. The rigatoni was fine – just not as flavorful as the penne.
At the end of the meal, one of our friends hadn’t finished his Buffalo Mozzarella Salad so the Husband had a taste (it’s one of the dishes he can’t turn down, especially if the tomatoes are fresh).
Overall, we enjoyed the food but the service was lacking. While we were a large group (12 or so), the wait for our food was particularly long. Our server was not very personable and difficult to track down. I’m not sure he even ever told us his name. After our meal, though, we headed out to the rooftop patio, just outside the bar. The view was incredible and there were some great breezes – a great place to enjoy a glass of wine. It’s likely where we’ll be the next time we head down to the M Resort…
