Duckworth’s Grill & Bar

Sunday night, after we returned to Charlotte from Virginia Beach, we were hungry at the airport and decided to go out on the way home since we likely didn’t have much at home.  We decided to hit up Duckworth’s Grill & Bar (aka The Cheesesteakery!).

Duckworth’s is located in a shopping center with numerous restaurants and to-go locations with a cute patio in the middle.  If the weather were nicer (and less humid!) we would have sat outside, but decided to get some A/C indoors with our dinner.

The inside is small but cozy with a bar when you first walk in and a single column with booths and tables.  We sat on the edge of the bar at a pub table with a view of football for the Husband.  It didn’t really seem like it was less humid inside than outside.

When perusing the menu, we were surprised to notice that they have pizzas and large entrees in addition to cheesesteaks (cheesesteaks are all we ever get there!).  Perhaps next time we’ll need to branch out.

Duckworth’s boasts 20 taps.  This photo shows their beer menu, but they often don’t have some of the options listed.  However, they try to replace the missing beers with similar ones.

I was craving a soda while the Husband ordered a Lagunitas IPA.  The Husband has been really into IPAs recently and very much enjoyed this beer.

We skipped appetizers and went straight for the cheesesteaks! I ordered the 7″ (versus a 10″) Buffalo Chicken Philly with chicken, onions, buffalo sauce, swiss cheese, and ranch.  I made mine a combo (you can order just the sandwich or add fries or chips and a soda) and got fries :-)

The Husband ordered the Steak & Egg Philly with steak, onions, egg, and cheddar and added chips as a side.

As usual, we enjoyed our cheesesteaks :-)

Ambiance: This is definitely a casual place with a casual atmosphere.  A good place to go with friends or on a laid back date.  There are a number of TVs in the restaurant/bar to watch sports games on and they would likely put on a game you’d like to see if you asked nicely.

Menu: As mentioned earlier, we usually go for the cheesesteaks but were pleasantly surprised to realize all of the other options including pizza and fajitas.  I briefly noticed on the menu that they have daily specials, which included both food and beer options ($2 draughts Mon-Tue). We’ll probably check out the specials in the future.

Something you won’t find on most menus: Many different kinds of cheesesteaks :-) I didn’t realize their name was actually “Bar & Grill” and not just the Cheesesteakery!

Service: All of the employees have always been very nice and friendly at this restaurant.  Our waitress Katie was sweet and acknowledged that she wasn’t the most knowledgeable on the beer selection when the Husband’s beer choice from the menu was no longer in stock.  Luckily another employee was super knowledgeable and helped him find one that suited his mood.

Food: I’ve personally never had a cheesesteak from Philadelphia :-0 so I can’t compare them, but I’ve always been pleased with my meals here.

Overall: We were satisfied with our dinner and the overall service.  Our only complaint during this visit was that it was very humid in the restaurant, but not having had this experience in the past, we assume there was just something wrong with the air conditioning that night.

Recommendation: If you’re looking for a place with a good beer selection and casual atmosphere, definitely check this place out! Especially if you’re interested in getting a cheesesteak!

  1. Those cheesesteaks look phenom!! Lagunitas is a good IPA. I’m an IPA ho, though, and like them hoppy and hoppier.

    Oh cheesesteaks…

Well, when living in Philly, I’d have been obligated to say Philly. But honestly, the best place for cheesesteaks was this wee little Italian spot in northern MD called Genovas. So dang delish.
